Green Bay Blizzard News Release

The af2 league office has announced that four members of the American Conference East Division Champion Green Bay Blizzard have been named to the 2006 All-af2 Team. The awards are given to the players who excelled at their respective positions during the regular season. All four Blizzard players were named to the All-af2 second team.

DS David Crocker (5-11, 205 Stephen F. Austin), a second-year member of the Blizzard, made his presence felt all season long with bone-jarring hits and timely defensive plays. Crocker led the team in tackles with 92.0 (84 solo, 16 assisted), and added an INT while setting the tone for the league's 4th-ranked defense. Crocker gained renown for his now-famous explanation of his penchant for big hits: "If you strike the shepherd, the sheep will scatter," and his philosophy led him to be named ADT Defensive Player of the Game 3 times this season.

OL/DL Brett Huyser (6-4, 310 Air Force) was an Arena Football rookie in 2006, but he played like a seasoned veteran. Part of one of the strongest lines in the af2, Huyser and his line-mates allowed the third-fewest sacks in the league (11). He was also just as valuable on defense as he was on offense, adding 11.5 tackles (10 solo, 3 assisted) and 1.5 sacks.

FB/LB Peter "The Animal" Lazare (6-2, 300 C.W. Post), also in his second year with the Blizzard, stormed into the league's consciousness with his bruising ball-carrying and his relentless pursuit of opposing players. "The Animal" finished 4th on the team in tackles with 35 (28 solo, 14 assisted), but his greatest contribution came as a ballcarrier: he led the team in rushing with 251 yards and an average of 17.9 yards per game, and he added 17 rushing TDs. His totals were good enough to help the Blizzard lead the league in both rushing TDs (46) and yards per game (an average of 39.3). He was also recognized as the U.S. Army Ironman of the Game on 3 occasions.

WR/DB Luke Leverson (6-0, 185 Minnesota) brought his vast Arena Football experience to the Blizzard and led the team with 1,986 all-purpose yards. Leverson finished the season with 1,087 kickoff return yards, tops on the Blizzard and 5th-best in the league. He also finished second on the team with 56 receptions for 842 yards, and average of 15.0 yards per catch. He tallied a total of 15 TDs on the season, 11 receiving, 1 rushing, and 1 KOR. His KOR average of 20.9 yards per return was 7th-best in the league. On defense he added 33 tackles (31 solo, 4 assisted) and 2 fumble recoveries on his way to being named U.S. Army Ironman of the Game 4 times, and winning the Cutters Catch of the Game once. (Leverson was also named U.S. Army Ironman of the Game for his efforts in the team's playoff win over the Xplorers.)

The Blizzard continues their historic season this Saturday, as they travel to Florida to take on the Firecats in the American Conference Championship Game. The winner will travel to San Juan, Puerto Rico to face the National Conference Champion on Saturday, August 26th in ArenaCup7. (The Spokane Shock hosts the Arkansas Twisters on Saturday night.)
