OKLAHOMA CITY-Kicker A.J. Haglund of the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz, who has become the most accurate conversion kicker in the history of arenafootball2, has been named the af2 Kicker of the Year for 2006.
The 5-foot-8, 175 pounder from the University of Central Oklahoma was a model of consistency, setting new standards for single season accuracy, and moving to the top of the career accuracy list in af2 for points after touchdown. Haglund hit on 116 of 124 his PAT attempts, a new single season accuracy mark of 93.5 percent. In his two seasons with the Yard Dawgz, he's connected on 150 of 165 PAT attempts. His 90.9 percent success rate is tops in af2 history among kickers with at least 100 attempts.
On top of his conversion success, Haglund hit on 10 of 32 field goal attempts and had a two point conversion, accounting for 148 points. On July 15th he hit three field goals against Arkansas and also made a touchdown saving tackle, earning him the Meyers-Reynolds Risk Taker of the Game.
Haglund, a native of El Reno, Oklahoma is a member of the UCO all century team. He also set a new Arena cup record this year, hitting a 57-yard field goal, the longest in af2 postseason history.
