A.J. Haglund named New Balance Kicker of the Year

Published on August 15, 2006 under arenafootball2 (af2) News Release

CHICAGO - Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz kicker A.J. HAGLUND has been named the New Balance Kicker of the Year, as selected by a vote of af2 head coaches and beat writers.

Haglund, in his second season, led all kickers in scoring with 146 points, a total that ranks third all time for points by a kicker in a season. He made ten field goals, tied for fifth in the league. Five of his field goals were 30 yards or longer, including a long of 48 yards against Arkansas in Week 16.

After missing a second quarter extra point in a Week 6 game against the Tulsa Talons on May 6, Haglund connected on 69 straight extra points. His streak lasted ten weeks until a third quarter extra point was blocked in Week 16 against Arkansas. This year Haglund had the best season for point after accuracy in af2 history, converting on 93.5 percent (116-124) of his point after attempts. The former Central Oklahoma Broncho also excelled on kickoffs, recording 23 touchbacks in 2006.

In Oklahoma City's only postseason game, he connected on playoff record 57-yard field goal against Arkansas. Haglund's mammoth kick was six yards longer than the previous postseason long field goal of 51 yards.

Haglund is the second ever recipient of the Kicker of the Year Award. Last season Louisville's Danny Kight took home the award.
