Toronto Argonauts News Release

Mississauga - The Toronto Argonauts Football Club would like to congratulate SB Arland Bruce III, DE Jonathan Brown, RB/KR Dominique Dorsey, and DS Kenny Wheaton and on being named 2008 East All-Stars. Division All-Stars were selected by voting members of the Football Reporters of Canada (FRC), the eight CFL head coaches and CFL fans from across the country.

Three seems to be the lucky number for Arland Bruce III, now a three-time East Division All-Star (2005, 2006, 2008). The only Argos receiver to catch for more than 1,000 yards this season (1,210), 'AB3' finished third in the division in receiving yards, receptions (92) and touchdowns (9). In addition, he achieved the second-highest receiving yards season of his career and led the team in receiving in 10 separate games in 2008. This is also the fourth straight season he has led the Double Blue in majors.

Upon learning the news, Arland Bruce III commented, "That's a blessing! I appreciate all the voters naming me an East All-Star and especially appreciate the Argos fans. Although I do not play for individual awards, being recognized this way adds to my motivation to work hard through the off-season. Be great!"

For the fourth straight season, DE Jonathan Brown has earned East Division All-Star accolades. A fan-favourite, Brown was named CFL Defensive Player of the Week in Week 6 and led the team with 7 QB sacks (fifth-best in the East) while becoming the second-leading sackmaster in club history (now at 48). He recorded 43 defensive tackles, the second-highest single-season output of his career, despite playing the first half of the season with a painful rib injury and mid-season changes on the defensive line.

Jonathan Brown remarked, "I'm proud to be selected to the East All-Star team. This is a result of my hard work in the off-season and my diligence during the season. To the Argos fans who never give up, we'll be back next year competing for a Grey Cup the way the Argos know how to compete."

Already a unanimous choice for team Most Outstanding Player and Outstanding Special Teams Player, RB/KR Dominique Dorsey is now an East All-Star for the second-straight season at kick returner. Despite missing five games due to injury, he ended the season as the CFL's all-purpose yards leader by nearly 150 yards. The reigning East Division Outstanding Special Teams Player has accumulated at least 200 all-purpose yards in a game nine (9) times this season, twice going for more than 300 yards, has scored four touchdowns, been named CFL Special Teams Player of the Week four times and CFL Special Teams Player of the Month twice (July & September). Also this season, Dorsey set a new Argos single-season kickoff yards record (1,257) and a new club single-game kickoff yards record (225).

Argos double award nominee Dominique Dorsey remarked, "I am honoured to be selected as an East All-Star. This season was challenging but I am happy to represent our team and the guys in our locker room, the special team warriors, with this acknowledgement."

DB Kenny Wheaton played the first nine games of the season at halfback and then dressed at safety for the rest of the season. He is second in the CFL in forced fumbles (4), tied a career-high with 4 interceptions and finished second on the team with 7 pass knockdowns. Wheaton has done more than just intimidate offences this season; the electrifying player has knocked away passes, laid crushing hits and led a defence in transition. This is the fourth straight season, but the first time at safety, Wheaton has earned East Division All-Star recognition.

Kenny Wheaton commented, "You go out every year to win a championship but while trying to win, you hope your play stands out amongst your peers and I'm happy mine did. When they first asked me to change positions, I was resistant but did what was best for the team. Being honoured as an East All-Star at safety makes it even sweeter and is a huge personal accomplishment."
