NEW YORK, N.Y. [March 5, 2008] - New York Liberty President & General Manager Carol Blazejowski announced today that forward Shameka Christon has signed a new four-year contract. As per team policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

2008 will mark Christon's fifth year in the WNBA. In 2007, she started in 32 of the 33 games she appeared in, and led the team in scoring six times and rebounding five times. She averaged a team-high 14.7 points per game in the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals against the defending WNBA Champion Detroit Shock, and tied a franchise best of 15 rebounds in Game One of that series on August 24.

With only four seasons under her belt, Christon has already left her mark on the Liberty franchise. In 2007 at the age of 25, she became the youngest player in franchise history to lead the Liberty in scoring with 11.2 points per game. She is currently ranked in 13 of the Liberty's 14 all-time franchise leader statistical categories, including games played (134), points (1,293), scoring average (9.6), blocked shots (89), and rebounds (429).

Christon was selected in the first round, fifth overall, by the Liberty in the 2004 WNBA Draft.

The New York Liberty basketball team, in its twelfth year of operation with the 2008 season, is a part of Madison Square Garden, L.P., owned by Cablevision Systems Corporation, and also includes the New York Knicks (NBA); the New York Rangers (NHL); the Hartford Wolf Pack (American Hockey League); MSG Entertainment, which includes concerts and events at Radio City Music Hall, Madison Square Garden, The WaMu Theater at Madison Square Garden, and the Beacon Theatre; MSG Media, which is comprised of MSG and FSN New York; fuse, the music television network; and the Madison Square Garden arena complex, located in the heart of the New York metropolitan area.
