Houston Dash News Release
HOUSTON - The National Women's Soccer League named Houston Dash forward Michelle Alozie as the Bud Light Player of the Week.
Alozie earns the honor for the first time in her career after scoring two goals in Houston's 2-0 win over NJ/NY Gotham FC. The Nigerian international scored the opening goal of the game in first half stoppage time. Alozie completed the brace in the 67th minute to extend Houston's lead. The Yale grad chipped in the second goal right as the NJ/NY Gotham FC keeper made contact with Alozie, which sent the forward tumbling into the ground.
Entering the match, Alozie had scored two goals in league play in a season that has seen the forward play a vital role in Houston's playoff push. Alozie and the Dash are two points outside of the final playoff spot in the NWSL standings and will continue their playoff pursuit on Sunday, Oct. 8 at Shell Energy Stadium against Angel City FC.
On the international level, Alozie made her World Cup debut with Nigeria during the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup in New Zealand and Australia. Alozie started every game for the Super Falcons as they advanced to the Round of 16.
