INDIANAPOLIS - Indiana Ice Arenas LLC, an affiliate company of the ECHL's Indy Fuel, closed a transaction on Wednesday to acquire the former Forum at Fishers Ice Arena from Center Ice Development, LLC and has re-branded the facility as the Fuel Tank at Fishers, announced Indy Fuel CEO & COO Sean Hallett on Thursday.
"We are thrilled to announce our ownership of the new Fuel Tank at Fishers," said Hallett. "We believe this investment in youth and adult hockey underscores the Fuel's commitment to growing the game at a grassroots level and aids in our ability to achieve our stated goal of doubling the participation in youth hockey in Central Indiana."
As part of Wednesday's transaction, Hallett also revealed plans for a $2.5M renovation of the arena with an expected completion date of October 2015. Included in the renovation are plans to expand the facility's parking area, the construction of additional office space, a new pro shop and a new fitness center that will be utilized by Fuel players and offer public memberships. Chad Hallett will serve as General Manager of the facility while former NHL defenseman and Indianapolis Ice CHL Champion Mike Berger will take over as the Fuel Tank's Hockey Director, overseeing all youth and adult hockey programs.
Fuel Chairman Jim Hallett says this acquisition is a major development for the Indianapolis hockey community. "This is an exciting day for hockey fans and hockey players alike," said Hallett Thursday. "Thanks to the tremendous support from Central Indiana Hoosiers in marking a successful first season, the 'Fuel Tank' represented the next logical step for us, both in terms of expanding our sports and entertainment businesses and in providing our community and players with a first-class hockey facility."
The Fuel will continue to utilize the Indiana Farmers Coliseum Youth Arena as the team's primary practice facility until the completion of a proposed adjacent multi-family housing complex to house Fuel players and the construction of a fully-outfitted professional locker room.
In 2015-16, the Indy Fuel drop the puck on their second season in the ECHL. Full and Half-Season Plans for the Fuel's sophomore campaign at Indiana Farmers Coliseum are on sale now, along with 12-Game Flex Packs, 9-Game Plans and Group Tickets!
