
Fort Wayne Takes Wild One 6-4 in Game 1

Fort Wayne, Indiana - The Fort Wayne Komets opened the Western Conference Semifinals with a 6-4 win over the Utah Grizzlies Friday night at Memorial Coliseum.
The Komets opened up a 3-0 lead 3:23 into the contest and took a 4-1 lead after one before Utah scored three-straight goals in the second period to tie the game. The Komets scored a power-play goal late in the second period to get the lead back and a controversial shorthanded goal with 3:33 left to make it 6-4.
Mark Owuya replaced Ryan Faragher after the three early goals as Utah proceeded to score four of the next five goals to tie the game with 10:36 left in the second period.
Ryan Hayes (3) made it 3-1 in the first period before Fort Wayne added another one late.
The Grizzlies started the second with goals from T.J. Syner (2) on the power-play at 2:02, Matt Berry (4) on a two-on-one at 7:59 and then Barry Almeida (3) on a wraparound on the power-play 1:25 later.
The Komets scored with 23 seconds left on a power-play to get the lead back and late in the third period after Mark Owuya made a save and the net came off. After discussion with all four officials the goal was counted as called on the ice.
The line of Hayes (one goal, two assists), Syner (one goal, one assist) and Almeida (one goal, two assists) all had multiple-points game for Utah.
