Utah Grizzlies News Release
West Valley City Utah - The Fort Wayne Komets scored three goals in the third period to erase a 1-0 deficit and defeat the Utah Grizzlies 3-1 Wednesday night at Maverik Center.
"You have to take it one game at a time," said Head Coach/General Manager Tim Branham. "We'll take advantage of our day off tomorrow; refocus and make sure we come out with a lot of energy on Friday."
With the win, the Komets take a 3 games to none lead in the series which has seen all games tied or within a goal in the third period.
Game four of the series is Friday at 7:30 p.m. from Maverik Center.
"It's a seven-game series, not a four-game series," said Grizzlies captain Brent Gwidt who returned to the Utah lineup for the first time in the playoffs Wednesday. "We just have to battle through it and make sure we come out on top this next game. We have to have a do or die mentality."
Jon Puskar gave Utah a 1-0 lead 2:49 into the first period as he slid in a puck from the side of the net with Shayne Taker and Charlie Sarault picking up assists.
The Utah lead lasted for 48 minutes and 49 seconds before Fort Wayne started their comeback in the third period.
Fort Wayne tied it at one 1:50 into the third period on a play the Grizzlies disputed should have been ruled offside. Fort Wayne took their first lead of the night 5:21 into the frame on a power-play goal and made it 3-1 with 1:30 left just moments after the Grizzlies were unable to convert on a two-on-one.
Grizzlies goaltender Mark Owuya stopped the first 23 shots that he saw to keep the Komets off the scoreboard. Owuya stopped 28 of 31 shots in the game.
