Stockton Ports News Release
The Stockton Ports are saddened to hear about the passing of former player Miles Head. Head passes away on July 24, 2022 at the age of 31. The Ports send their condolences to Head's family and friends during this difficult time.
After graduating from Whitewater High School, Miles was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in 2009 and played with them for 3 years before being traded to the Oakland Athletics for Andrew Bailey in December of 2011.
In six minor league seasons, the former 26th round draft pick played for seven different minor league teams while reaching as high as Double-A. He compiled 55 home runs, 237 RBI, 96 doubles, and a career .277 hitter.
Head put together one of the most impressive halves of a season in the Cal League when he was a member of the Ports in 2012. The Georgia native clipped a .382 batting average with 18 home runs, 56 RBI, and an insane 1.148 OPS in just 67 games in Stockton before being called up to Double-A Midland. He would continue to play for the Rockhounds before retiring in 2015.
He is survived by his wife, Hailey Head, daughter, Charlie Head, parents Mike and Beverly Head, brothers Michael Head and McClain Head; grandmother, Claudette Lisle, niece, Kayden Head, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
