
Former Lancers Among Hobey Baker Finalists

Former Lancers Nathan Gerbe and Jeff Lerg have been announced as two of 10 finalists for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award, the award given annually to the nation's top collegiate hockey player. The Hobey Hat Trick will be announced on April 2. The Hobey Baker Award announcement will come on Friday, April 11 at 6:30 EST from Denver, Colorado, the site of this year's NCAA Frozen Four Championships. It will be televised live on ESPNU.
Gerbe, a junior at Boston College is currently leading the nation in scoring with 57 points - 28 goals and 29 assists - in 39 games. He's tallied 15 multiple-point performances, including five multiple-goal games. Gerbe was recently named the Hockey East tournament's MVP after the Eagles defeated Vermont 4-0 on Saturday March 22nd.
Michigan State junior goaltender Jeff Lerg owns a .925 save percentage (9th nationally) a 2.22 goals against average, and a 23-11-5 record. Lerg is also ranked first among all Division I goaltenders in saves (1072). He ranks third in the nation in minutes played (2345:01).
Lerg is also a finalist for the prestigious James E. Sullivan Award, which will be announced on April 1. The award honors the top amateur athlete in the United States.
Note: Nathan Gerbe played for the Lancers during the 2002-2003 season while Jeff Lerg played for the Lancers during the 2003-2005 seasons.
