Omaha Lancers News Release
OMAHA, NE - The Omaha Lancers of the United States Hockey League (USHL) are pleased to announce that former Lancer and current NHLer Jed Ortmeyer will be practicing with the Lancers this Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. All Lancers practices are open to the public and fans are welcomed and encouraged to come catch the first glimpse of Omaha's newest on-ice talent. The Lancers will practice at the Motto McLean Ice Arena from 2:30 - 4:30 PM this Tuesday through Thursday.
Ortmeyer, an Omaha Lancer from 1997-1999, is currently preparing for the San Jose Sharks' training camp after signing a one-year deal with San Jose this past July. The Omaha native had spent each of the past two seasons in the Nashville Predators organization. Ortmeyer joins the Lancers amidst their second full week of preseason practices. The Lancers begin regular season play Saturday, October 3rd as they make their much-anticipated return to Omaha when they welcome the Tri-City Storm to the Civic Auditorium.
Preparations are currently underway on the ice to ensure the 2009-2010 Lancers are ready to take the city of Omaha by storm. 29 players are currently participating in the Lancers' preseason camp, a list that must be trimmed to 23 skaters in the next four weeks. Household names like Matt White and Dakota Eveland are back for their third consecutive season in a Lancers sweater while 2008-09 defensive standouts Dennis Brown, Mike Chiasson, Joe Lavin and CJ Ludwig have returned to patrol Omaha's blue line for another year. Those six skaters plus 23 more are battling on a daily basis in the hopes of securing their name to the 2009-2010 roster.
