
Former Lancer Defenseman Signs With San Jose

Denver University junior defenseman Matt Carle (Omaha, 2002-03) has signed with the San Jose Sharks.
In 2005-06, Carle was named the WCHA Player of the Year, WCHA Defensive Player of the Year and was First-Team All-WCHA. This season, Carle had 11 goals and 41 assists.
"We're excited about Matt joining the San Jose Sharks," said San Jose coach Ron Wilson. "His accomplishments over the past several years speak for themselves.
"He's made tremendous progress in the last few seasons and that's a testament to the program at DU and guidance and leadership provided by head coach George Gwozdecky and his staff. We're looking forward to taking his development to the next level."
Carle had a prolific career at Denver, winning two NCAA championships and compiling 123 points on 29 goals and 94 assists.
Carle was selected in the second round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by the Sharks.
