
Former IronBirds Beato, Olson named to Futures Game

Aberdeen, MD- Former IronBirds and top Orioles prospects Pedro Beato and Garrett Olson have been named to participate in the 2007 XM All-Star Futures Game on July 8 during All-Star Weekend in San Francisco.
The All-Star Futures Game, now in its ninth season, showcases baseball's top prospects in a seven inning exhibition game. The prospects are divided into U.S. and World teams. The U.S. team leads the all-time series 5-3 and has won three of the last four Futures Games.
Beato will represent the World team. Born in Puerto Rico and raised in New York City, right-handed pitcher Beato is 3-1 with a 3.32 ERA in 14 starts with the Delmarva Shorebirds (Low-A) of the South Atlantic League. He was a member of the 2006 IronBirds and went 3-2 with a 3.63 ERA in 14 games (10 starts) during his first professional season. Beato was the 32nd overall selection in the 2006 draft.
Left-handed pitcher Olson will represent the U.S. team. He is 5-6 with a 3.56 ERA in 15 starts with the Norfolk Tides (AAA) of the International League. Olson went 2-1 with a 1.58 ERA in 11 games (six starts) for the 2005 IronBirds. He was a first round sandwich pick in the 2005 draft.
Beato and Olson are the fourth and fifth former IronBirds to appear in the Futures Game, joining fellow 'Birds alumni LHP Adam Loewen ('03 IronBirds, '05 Futures Game), RHP John Maine ('02 IronBirds, '03 Futures Game) and OF Val Majewski ('02 & '03 IronBirds, '04 Futures Game).
There are 122 current Major League players who have appeared in a Futures Game including Loewen, Maine and Majewski and current Orioles Danys Baez, Eric Bedard and Corey Patterson.
