Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

FISHKILL, NY (June 22, 2007) - The Renegades entered Friday night's home opener with plenty of momentum, as the team returned home after a hard fought battle at Aberdeen and would now be playing in front of an enthusiastic home crowd.

However, this momentum quickly disappeared as Cyclones centerfielder Raul Reyes cranked a home run on the first pitch from Doug Waechter in the second inning and the Cyclones pitching staff hurled a masterful three-hit performance. Starter Nick Carr baffled Renegades hitters for the first six innings, surrendering only two hits and striking out ten. Dan McDonald, who pitched the seventh and eighth innings, and Stephen Klyne, who pitched the ninth and earned the save, each struck out two to preserve the shutout.

Despite the loss, the Renegades continue to show many promising signs. Reliever Claudio Rodriguez pitched a terrific four innings, allowing only two hits and keeping the Renegades in the game. Outfielder Emeel Salem proved he is the Renegades' threat on the base paths, swiping two more bags in Friday night's game to increase his season total to five. Also contributing for the Renegades were relievers Robert Della Grotta and Noah Booth, who also pitched well in relief after Rodriguez left the game.

While pitching may have won the game for Brooklyn, several Cyclones position players thwarted a possible comeback by the Renegades. Shortstop Matt Bouchard led off the third inning with a hit, stole second, and then scored on a base hit by J.R. Voyles. Bouchard and first baseman Lucas Duda also contributed in the winning effort defensively, repeatedly making stellar plays to keep the Renegades offense in check.

Renegades pitchers Jesse Darcy and Alex Cobb will try to avenge tonight's loss as the ‘Gades travel to Keyspan Park and face the Cyclones on Satuday and Sunday.
