INDIANAPOLIS -- Former Indianapolis Indians outfielder Andrew McCutchen and shortstop J. J. Hardy were chosen as 2012 Rawlings Gold Glove Award winners.
As the Pittsburgh Pirates center fielder, McCutchen finished the 2012 season with a 135-game errorless streak and led all National League outfielders in fielding percentage (.997), making just one error in 371 total chances. He ranked second among all N.L. outfielders, and led center fielders, in starts (156) and innings played (1364.0) while ranking third in total chances.
McCutchen played in Indianapolis for parts of three seasons from 2007-09 during which he committed only three errors in 454 total chances for a .993 fielding percentage. The speedy center fielder also finished out his career in Indianapolis with 93 straight games without committing an error, including all 48 games of his stint during the 2009 season.
Hardy earned his first career Gold Glove with the American League Wild Card winning Baltimore Orioles after he led AL shortstops in games (158), fielding percentage (.922), putouts (244) and assists (529). Overall, he made just six errors in 779 chances at the position and his .992 fielding percentage was the highest mark by an AL shortstop since 2002.
Hardy played in 26 games for the Tribe during the 2004 season and posted a .953 fielding percentage, committing five errors in 106 total chances. Despite his limited time with Indianapolis in 2004, Hardy put up excellent offense numbers, batting .277 with four home runs, 20 RBI and 17 runs scored.
