Former FerryHawks Star, Luis Castro Signs with Houston Astros Organization

Staten Island, NY - The Staten Island FerryHawks are proud to announce that former standout player, Luis Castro has signed a contract with the Houston Astros organization. The dynamic infielder and two-year FerryHawk has earned a well-deserved opportunity to return to affiliated baseball to continue his professional career.

Castro, 29, had a spectacular 2024 season in the Atlantic League, capturing the league's batting title with a .356 average. His impressive offensive numbers included 24 home runs, 80 RBIs, and 22 stolen bases as he showcased all-around abilities and consistency at the plate. His ability to hit for average while also providing power and speed made him a true threat in every game, and his all-around performance earned him a spot on the Atlantic League's Post-Season All Star Team.

The Venezuelan native started his career within the Colorado Rockies organization in 2013 before signing with the Brewers organization in late 2019. With Milwaukee, Castro advanced to the Nashville Sounds (AAA) before joining the Atlantic League in 2022. The utility defender spent the last two seasons in Staten Island.

Castro's signing with the Astros is a testament to the development opportunities available within the Atlantic League and the success stories that are born from it.
