Manchester Wolves News Release
The arenafootball2 league office announced today that OL/DL Corey Groover has been assigned to the Manchester Wolves, New England's professional arenafootball2 team.
Groover, a former standout at Clemson University (2003-2005), recorded 52 career tackles, an interception, 11 tackles for loss and a pair of sacks during his career as a Tiger. The Johnsonville, S.C. native originally signed to play with Clemson in 2002, but instead enrolled at Southwest Mississippi Community College, where he dominated the competition from 2002 and 2003, registering 60 solo tackles, nine sacks and an interception. The 6'3, 282 pound lineman isn't a stranger when it comes to accolades as he was named a top 100 junior college football player and ranked as the 11 th best defensive tackle in the nation among junior college players by collegefootballnews.com at Southwest Mississippi CC and a USA Today pre-season All-American, MVP of the Shrine Bowl, and South Carolina Defensive Player of the Year as a senior at Hannah-Pamplico High School.
"Groover is a guy we hope can improve our pass rush," said Wolves' Head Coach Ben Bennett. "The pass rush has been good at times and we've been non-existent at times. I hope he can bring a little fire to our front group. You don't play ball at Clemson for as long as he did and not be a good football player."
Groover joins fellow Tiger alum DS Brian Mance as former Clemson players currently on the Wolves roster. J.J. McKelvey, former Wolves star WR from 2004-2005 and current Philadelphia Soul rookie in the AFL is also a Clemson graduate.
The Wolves placed second-year af2 lineman Floyd Black on re-assignment In order for the Wolves to make room for Groover on the roster
The Wolves take to the field this Saturday, May 20, at 7:30 p.m. on Brady Sullivan Field at the Verizon Wireless Arena, against the #1 ranked Florida Firecats (5-1). Saturday's game is "Military Appreciation Night," presented by Delta Dental and AAA. The first 4,000 fans in attendance receive a FREE Delta Dental/Wolves toothbrush!
