Former Big-Leaguer Whisler Returns to Winston

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (MAY 16, 2011) - The Winston-Salem Dash today announced that LHP Wes Whisler will join the club. Whistler was activated from the disabled list with AAA Charlotte and was transferred to Winston-Salem. There is no corresponding roster move at this time.

Whisler threw in two games for Charlotte this season and went 1-0 with an 8.44 ERA in 5.1 innings. He started one game and threw five shutout innings, allowing two hits and striking out three. In his next appearance, he lasted one-third of an inning and gave up five runs (all earned).

He was drafted by the White Sox in the second round of the 2004 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of UCLA. With the Bruins, Whisler was a two-time All-American in 2002 and 2003. He played first base and pitched at UCLA.

Whisler made his major league debut for the White Sox on June 2, 2009 and threw a scoreless inning. He made two more appearances for the White Sox and registered an ERA of 13.50 in 1.1 innings pitched. He was traded to the Florida Marlins on June 21, 2010 and signed with the White Sox as a minor league free agent in March of 2011.

Whisler played parts of three seasons with the Winston-Salem Warthogs from 2004 - 2006. He went 16-17 with a 4.65 ERA before his promotion to AA Birmingham in 2006.

The Dash roster now stands at the Carolina League limit of 25 players.
