Hershey Bears News Release

HERSHEY – The HERSHEY Bears announced today that the Colorado Avalanche has signed defenseman Lance Pitlick to a two-way contract. In keeping with company policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Pitlick, who began his professional career in HERSHEY, played for the Bears from 1990-94 when he was a member of the Philadelphia Flyers' organization. After the Minnesota North Stars originally drafted him with their 10th choice, 180th overall, in the 1986 Entry Draft, Pitlick, a native of Minneapolis, never played a pro game for the Minnesota organization. Instead, following four seasons at the University of Minnesota, he signed with Philadelphia as a free agent on September 5, 1990. Pitlick played 64 games for the Bears in his rookie year of 1990-91, contributing 6-15-21 numbers and 64 penalty minutes. An injury limited him to only four games in 1991-92, but the 6', 205 lb. blueliner rebounded the following year, registering 5-10-15 numbers and 77 penalty minutes in 53 games. In 1993-94, his final season with the Bears, Pitlick helped HERSHEY capture the Southern Division regular season crown. He posted 4-13-17 numbers with 93 penalty minutes in 58 games.

The Ottawa Senators signed Pitlick as a free agent in June of 1994, ending his tenure in Chocolatetown. He spent the next two seasons splitting time between the Senators and their AHL affiliate in Prince Edward Island. Beginning in 1996-97, Pitlick became a full-time NHLer, appearing in 66 games for Ottawa. Following the 1997-98 campaign, he signed with the Florida Panthers as a free agent and spent the next four seasons in the Sunshine state.

The 34-year old Pitlick is a veteran of 393 career NHL games played and 662 overall professional contests.
