CHICAGO - The Kannapolis Intimidators, Class A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, received former Appalachian State catcher and North Carolina native Jeremy Dowdy from Extended Spring Training today. Catcher Brent Tanner has been promoted back to Class A- Advanced Winston-Salem in a corresponding move.

Dowdy, 22, appeared in 18 games last season between Advanced Rookie Bristol and Winston-Salem after signing with the Sox on June 9, 2012. He hit .295 (13-44) with five RBI, four doubles and a triple in his professional debut. Dowdy is one of three players in Appalachian State history to play in 200 games as a Mountaineer during his collegiate career from 2009-12. He finished his career ranking in the school's top 10 with 203 games played, 732 at-bats, 43 doubles, 127 RBI and 86 walks. Dowdy graduated from Wakefield High School in Raleigh, N.C., in 2009. His older brother Josh spent three years in the Baltimore Orioles farm system, pitching against the Intimidators as a member of the Delmarva Shorebirds in 2010-11.

Tanner, 25, returns to the Winston-Salem Dash after a productive second stint with Kannapolis. In 20 games with the Intimidators, he hit .241 with 14 RBI and a team-lead-tying four home runs to go along with five doubles. Tanner started the season with the Dash and is batting .333 (13-39) in 13 Carolina League games.
