Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (June 11, 2013) -- Augusta starting pitcher Kendry Flores bounced back from allowing an early run to stifle the Kannapolis Intimidators in a 7-1 (F/7) GreenJackets win the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader at CMC-NorthEast Stadium. Kannapolis will try to avoid being swept in the series finale on Wednesday after dropping both games of today's doubleheader.

Flores (4-4) finished his 6.0-inning outing with five scoreless frames after giving up a home run to Jason Coats (4) in the first inning. He scattered eight hits while striking out seven and walking none to earn the win.

Augusta broke a 1-1 tie in the second inning with a 3-run frame, their first of two 3-run innings. Eric Sim, Rafael Rodriguez and Chuckie Jones singled in the second inning, with Jones driving him Sim for a 2-1 lead. After a balk moved runners into scoring position, Rodriguez scored on a wild pitch, and Jones later crossed the plate on a passed ball for a 4-1 advantage.

The GreenJackets added three more runs in the fourth inning, chasing Kannapolis starter Braulio Ortiz from the game. Ortiz (0-2), in his second start of the season, worked 3 1/3 innings and allowed six runs (four earned) on five hits while striking out five and walking three.

After Storm Throne worked 1 2/3 relief innings, Ryan Bollinger finished the game on the mound for the Intimidators with 2.0 perfect innings, striking out four along the way.

Intimidators All-Star outfielder Jason Coats blasted a game-tying solo home run (4) with two outs in the bottom of the first inning. Right fielder Juan Ramirez went 3-for-3 for the Intimidators with a trio of singles.

The Intimidators and GreenJackets wrap up this series on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. For ticket information, please call the F&M Bank Box Office at (704) 932-3267 or visit intimidatorsbaseball.com.
