Former All-Star, Two Rookies Assigned By Hartford

CHARLOTTE, NC- The Charlotte Checkers announced today that forwards Ryan Garlock, Jean-Philip Chabot and defenseman Mike Berube have been assigned by the Hartford Wolfpack of the American Hockey League.

Garlock, 23, comes to the Checkers after splitting last season between the AHL's Syracuse Crunch and ECHL's Johnstown Chiefs. In 35 games with the Crunch he tallied four goals and one assist, while adding 19 penalty minutes. In 16 games with Johnstown, he netted 10 goals and eight assists.

In 2007-08, the 6-foot, 205-pound native of Iroquois Falls, Ontario notched 26 goals and 35 assists for Johnstown and was named to the 2008 ECHL All-Star game. He also tied for the team lead in playoff scoring with eight points in six games.

Garlock was drafted in the second round (45th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks and spent his rookie season with the San Antonio Rampage of the AHL.

Chabot, 21, is entering his first season as a professional. He was signed by the Hartford Wolfpack this summer after a successful junior career which saw him win two Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Championships in four seasons with the Moncton Wildcats and Gatineau Olympiques. In 269 junior games, the 6-foot-1, 200-pound forward from Quebec City, Quebec scored 108 goals and added 102 assists.

Berube, 21, is entering his first pro season and spent the last five years in the Western Hockey League with the Prince George Cougars, Red Deer Rebels and Vancouver Giants. The 6-foot-1, 215-pound defenseman from Edmonton, Alberta tallied 15 goals and 63 assists in 317 games in the WHL.

The Checkers have also announced that Steve Ward, Tyler Doig, Andrew Carroll, Matt Schepke and Luke Lucyk have been released from training camp with Hartford and will return to Charlotte. In addition, Julien Brouillette was released from training camp with the Manitoba Moose of the AHL and will return to the Checkers.

The Checkers' schedule is now available and they are getting ready for their 17th season of play as a member of the ECHL and 16th as an affiliate of the New York Rangers. In the team's 16-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 12 times including five consecutive playoff appearances to date. Season tickets are on sale now.
