Former Adirondack Red Wing Re-signs with Frostbite

Glens Falls, NY – The Adirondack Frostbite today officially finalized the contract of veteran center Sylvain Cloutier, it was announced by Frostbite Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Marc Potvin. The parties had agreed in principal on June 25th. Cloutier returns to Adirondack for his seventh season. The two-way centerman played in Adirondack for five years with the Red Wings, from 1993-98 and last season with Adirondack of the UHL. Cloutier spent an additional three seasons in upstate New York playing for the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League (AHL) for three years, from 1999-2002. As per team policy, terms of the agreement are not being disclosed.

Cloutier, 30, averaged over a point per game last season in Adirondack tallying 36 in 33 games. He also saw time in the AHL with the Syracuse Crunch and Albany River Rats. The Canadian has played in 778 pro-hockey games, including time in the NHL, IHL, AHL, and ECHL. Two years ago as the captain of the Houston Aeros (AHL), the 6'0'' 195-pounder helped bring the Calder Cup to Houston recording 15 points (4-11) in the regular season and 6 points (3-3) in the playoffs. Before joining the Aeros for the 2002-03 season, Cloutier played in Albany for three seasons with the River Rats (AHL). In the capital city, Cloutier tallied 110 points (37-73) with 329 penalty minutes.

Cloutier began his professional career in the Adirondacks when he was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the 3rd round, #70 overall in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft. In his first season he was assigned to the Red Wings (AHL), where he spent the next five seasons playing at the Glens Falls Civic Center. In 287 games with Adirondack, Cloutier amassed 148 points (45-103), along with 609 penalty minutes.

Cloutier not only won the championship with the Aeros, but brought five other teams to the playoffs as well. In 1997-98 after spending the majority of the season with the A-Wings, the lefty was called up to the Detroit Vipers (IHL) where he led the team to the finals.

Cloutier becomes the third player to sign with the Frostbite for the upcoming season, joining veteran left wing Hugo Belanger and veteran right wing Frank Littlejohn.
