Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release
Winnipeg Goldeyes manager Rick Forney announced today the signing of veteran infielder Brad Boyer to a contract for the 2015 season.
Boyer, 31, played last season with Class AA New Britain of the Eastern League in the Minnesota Twins system. In 79 games, he hit .246 with 26 RBI and 14 stolen bases. He was the American Association's All-Star Second Baseman while playing for the Gary SouthShore RailCats in 2011 and also played for the St. Paul Saints in 2013 before having his contract purchased by the Twins.
"He has a lot of experience and versatility, both offensively and defensively," Forney said. "He had two huge seasons in our league in the past. We envision him hitting third in the lineup, getting on base, stealing bags, scoring runs, and driving runs in."
In 165 career American Association games with Gary and St. Paul, Boyer has a .325 batting average with 17 home runs and 118 RBI.
Boyer was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 13 th round of the 2006 MLB Amateur Draft. He played five seasons in their system, reaching Triple-A Fresno of the Pacific Coast League in 2010. He played his college career with Arizona, where he was named to the Collegiate Baseball and Baseball America Freshman All-American team and PAC-10 All-Conference team as the third baseman in 2003.
The Goldeyes now have 22 players signed for the 2015 season, including 11 pitchers and 11 position players.
Season tickets and 9-Game Mini Packs for the 2015 season are now on sale. Fans can visit Goldeyes.com or call 982-BASE (2273) for more information.
