Green Bay Rockers News Release
Wisconsin Rapids, WI - The Bullfrogs came from behind twice against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters on Friday evening to sweep the doubleheader. Green Bay took game one 5-3 and game two 7-4. The sweep improves Green Bay to 32-22 which is the best overall record in the South Division. The 'Frogs are 12-9 in the second half and in third place 2.5 games back of the Loggers with 16 games left in the season.
In game one Andy Hunter started for the 'Frogs and got off to a tough start allowing three runs in the first inning. After that however he was able to buckle down and he did not allow a run in the final four innings of his six-inning three-run performance. Hunter did not have his best stuff as he relied primarily on his fastball, but he still earned his third win of the year.
Green Bay scored three runs in the second inning. Cameron Dullnig hit a one out single in front of a strike out by Phillip Ervin and walk to Joe Betcher. Steven Halcomb then hit a line drive to the left center field gap to score Dullnig as he hustled into second with a double. Ryan Schilter then hit an infield single to score Betcher. On the play the Rafters starter Brad Douthit threw the ball into right field to allow Halcomb to score.
The 'Frogs were tied at three headed to the fourth inning. Green Bay broke the tie when Phillip Ervin stole third base and came into score when the third baseman missed the throw. Billy Moon tacked on a fifth run with his third home run of the year. Adam Cimber came in and saved the game in the seventh inning.
In game two the Rafters jumped out to another early lead with two unearned runs in the second inning. A.J. Gaura settled in from there and did not allow another run as he went five innings and allowed just the two unearned runs.
The Bullfrogs put runners in scoring position in each of the first three innings and did not score until the fifth when they put up a six spot. Eric Peterson and Alec Mehrten each had a single and were sacrificed into scoring position. The Bullfrogs would follow that up with three consecutive RBI singles before Paul Hoenecke capped the inning with a two run homer.
Duncan McAlpine hit a solo shot in the sixth before John Colella came in and saved the game in the seventh. The 'Frogs continue their stretch of five games in 48 hours with a doubleheader on Saturday with the Eau Claire Express starting at 5:05 pm. It is a Funeral Giveaway at Joannes Stadium presented by Lyndahl Funeral home. On Bullfrog fan will win an all expense paid trip to their final resting place.
