WISCONSIN RAPIDS - After winning the first game of a double-header 8-3, the Wisconsin Woodchucks dropped game two to the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters by a score of 8-4.
The Woodchucks struck first with a crooked number in the second inning. Jamie Bruno led the inning off with a walk against Michael Russo and came around to score on an RBI-double by Aaron Gates. Gates scored later in the inning when Seth Batty drew a walk with the bases loaded, giving the Woodchucks a 2-0 lead.
The Rafters answered back with runs of their own in both the second and third innings. In the second, Brandon Hohl scored on a sacrifice fly by Garret Novinski. The following inning, Garret Nash smacked a homerun to right field, tying the game at two.
In the fourth, the Woodchucks took the lead right back when Garret Yrigoyen scored on an RBI-single by Dimitri De La Fuente.
However, the lead would not last long, as the Rafter rallied for four runs in the fifth inning. After Woodchuck starter Jake Long retired the first two batters of the inning, a combination of four singles, a walk and a hit batter, all with two outs, allowed four runs to score. The biggest hit of the inning came off the bat of Josh Cyr, who lined a single to right field, bringing in two runs, as the Rafters took a 6-3 lead.
Wisconsin Rapids added a few insurance runs in the seventh on back-to-back solo home runs by Brandon Hohl and Josh Cyr, extending the Rafter lead to five runs.
That would be all the Rafters would need as reliever Joie Dunyon shut down the Woodchucks, throwing five innings, allowing only one run, and picking up the victory as the Rafters won, 8-4.
The Woodchucks fell to 9-14 on the second half while the Rafters improved to 10-14. The two teams will square off again tomorrow night at Athletic Park in Wausau with first pitch being thrown at 5:05.
