Force Turns Up Heat Harrisburg

CLEVELAND, OHIO – The Cleveland Force played host to the Harrisburg Heat and defeated the Heat, 16-8, in a Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Eastern Conference game at the Convocation Center at Cleveland State University.

With the victory, Cleveland won its second straight game and improved to 14-14 overall. With the loss, Harrisburg fell to 12-18 overall and 2-3 in the season series.

The Heat opened the scoring (0-2) when Neil Gilbert scored a two-point goal off the pass from Ato Leone at 5:09 of the first quarter. The Force tied the game (2-2) when Chris Stathopoulos scored a two-point restart goal off the assist from John Ball at 13:54.

Cleveland took its first lead of the game (4-2) when Lee Edgerton scored a two-point goal off the cross from Joe Mattacchione at 6:39 of the second quarter. The Force added to their lead (6-2) when D.J Newsom scored an unassisted two-point goal at 7:50. Harrisburg snapped a 6-0 run by Cleveland (6-4) when Ato Leone found the back of the net off the feed from Marco Coria at 8:10. The Heat tied the game for the second time (6-6) when David Bascome found the back of the net off the pass from Leone at 10:19. The Force regained the lead (8-6) when Giuliano Oliviero found the back of the net off the cross from Nevio Pizzolitto at 13:53.

Harrisburg tied the game for the third time (8-8) when Coria scored a two-point goal off the pass from Nikola Vignjevic just 58 seconds into the third quarter. Cleveland regained the lead (10-8) when Steve Butcher scored a two-point restart goal off the second assist of the game for Ball at 13:11.

The Force added to its lead and opened the fourth quarter scoring (12-8) when Stathopoulos notched his second goal of the game off the third assist of the game for Ball at 3:09. Cleveland kept the scoring streak going (14-8) when Oliviero scored his second goal of the game off the pass from Butcher at 3:42. The Force added to their lead (16-8) when Newsom scored his second goal of the game off a season-high tying fourth assist for Ball at 10:04.

Cleveland will play host to the Dallas Sidekicks in a MISL game on Sunday, February 23rd at the Convocation Center at CSU.
