February 21, 2003 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2) News Release
(Westport, Conn., February 21, 2003) â Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Commissioner Steve Ryan announced on Friday the additions of Milwaukee Wave forward Brian Loftin and Harrisburg Heat striker Gino DiFlorio to the rosters for the 2003 MISL All-Star Game, to be played at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Sunday, March 9. Kickoff for the League's midseason classic is set for 1:30 p.m. Central Time. The game will be televised on FOX Sports World from 8:00 â 10:30 p.m. Eastern Time on Friday, March 21.
Loftin, 30, has scored 13 goals and 36 points in 26 games this season for the first-place Wave. The native of Kansas City, MO, has scored 278 goals and 621 points in 293 career games. Loftin played the first four seasons (1994-98) of his career in Kansas City before joining the Wave for their 1999-2000 title run. A First Team All-Rookie selection in '94-95, Loftin tallied a career-high 102 points in 2001-02, earning a spot on the All-MISL Second Team. He will make his first All-Star appearance.
Including Loftin, this year's Western Conference All-Star unit will feature seven players from the hometown Wave.
DiFlorio, 38, has registered 7 goals and 22 points in 18 games this season. The native of Naples, Italy, played 18 games for the Baltimore Blast prior to a January 30 trade that sent him back to Harrisburg, where he scored 522 points from 1998-2002. He stands as the third-leading scorer (1,623 points) and second-leading goal-scorer (619 goals) in League history, and is one of six players in the history of the game to score 200 points in a season (214, in 1999-00). A six-time All-League selection and eight-time All-Star, DiFlorio was named the League's 2000-01 Most Valuable Player after a 51-goal, 142-point campaign.
DiFlorio becomes the sixth Heat player named to this year's Eastern Conference All-Star squad.
