Orange County Flyers News Release

(Reno, NV): The Flyers, having lost 7 of their last 8 games since starting the season 11-10, were down to their last out in the 9th inning on Monday night, facing the league's best closer, on the league's best team.

The Silver Sox (20-11), with a 5-2 lead entering the 9th, brought in their version of a "sure thing", when closer Scott Snyder came on to face the Flyers.

Snyder, who had only walked one batter all season, walked Garry Templeton II on 4 straight pitches, and followed by walking Rich Pohle on 4 consecutive wide ones, as well.

That brought up GBL leading hitter Peanut Williams, but Peanut was too eager, and stuck out on three pitches.

Chad Chop followed with a line out to centerfield, bringing up Matt Ferrara, who singled, bringing home Templeton.

Jacob Wallis, the struggling catcher, stepped to the plate, and belted a three run blast over the wall in left centerfield, putting the Flyers up 6-5.

Reno led off the home half of the ninth with double, and after a sacrifice bunt moved the runner to third, Marcus Jensen walked, before Flyers closer Wes Faust got Edgar Varela to ground into a game-ending double play.

The Flyers (13-17) split the four game series with Reno, and now come home to begin a 10 game home stand on Tuesday night against the Chico Outlaws.

Tonight's game (July 4) begins at 6:05 PM at Goodwin Field, and there are plenty of great seats still available.
