Orange County Flyers News Release

Long Beach and Fullerton played 17 innings on Sunday and nothing was decided. The doubleheader was split and the four game weekend series finished two wins apiece.

Long Beach took game one of the double dip 4-1 behind a complete game win from Justin Ramsey. Ramsey was dominant through seven innings, allowing three hits and one run.

The Flyers countered in game two by mashing Armada pitching for 11 runs and 18 hits in a 10 inning game that was scheduled for 7 innings. The game-winning blow was delivered by Gabe Mayorga, who came through with a two-out single in the 10th to drive home Peanut Williams.

Wes Faust won game two by throwing 5.1 innings of relief and giving up two runs. He inherited a 9-7 lead, but Long Beach tied the game at 9-9 with a wild pitch in the 6th inning.

Peanut Williams drove his 14th homerun as part of an early Flyers barrage. Peanut now has 52 runs batted in on the season with three in the second game.

Jose Canseco also blasted his second GBL homerun off of Nick Casanova. The epic drive cut the Flyers 9-5 lead to 9-7 at Blair Field.

The Flyers took advantage of fielding mistakes from Bobby Castro, Jeff Larue and Samone Peters to build a four run advantage.

Both Garry Templeton II and Bret Levier had four hits and a triple in the game.

Long Beach took advantage of some controversial umpiring in game one to score three runs in the 5th inning and open up a 4-1 lead.

The 5th inning rally began with a one out walk to Ryan Stevenson. The controversy began when Stevenson was called safe trying to steal second base.

He then scored the go ahead run on a bloop double to right field by Ryan Webb. Rick Elder injured his shoulder attempting to catch Webb's double.

Flyers catcher Adam Shorsher replaced Elder in right field and was immediately pressed into action. Adonis Harrison lined a single to right and Shorsher made a strong throw to the plate. The home plate umpire ruled that Webb's hand touched home before catcher Buddy Morales applied the tag.

Todd Gelatka was removed after giving up an RBI double to Randall Shelley to cap the three run inning.

Darrell Evans and SS Jeremy Hernandez were ejected from game two for arguing with the umpires.

Starters Matt Lincoln and Nathan Pudewell were roughed up in game two but did not factor into the decision.

The Flyers head into the all-star break with a bunch of injuries that need healing. Hector Zamora (hamstring), Rick Elder (shoulder) and Rich Pohle (feet) will all benefit from the three day break.

The Flyers will get back to work next Thursday at San Diego.
