Long Beach Armada News Release
LONG BEACH, CA- Neither team wanted to take a break for the Golden Baseball League All-Star Game this week, as Fullerton (19-25, 2-2) and Long Beach (24-20, 2-2) settled for a split on the final day of the first half, with the Flyers taking game two 11-9 in 10 innings, after the Armada won game one, 4-1, nearly six hours after the start of play.
Fullerton forced the split after blowing a 9-5 lead, as Gabe Mayorga's, two-out RBI single in the 10th gave Fullerton a 10-9 lead. Wes Faust (4-2) was the winner, giving up two runs over the final five and one-third innings of relief.
Ryan Webb had five hits in the double-dip, including the game-winning hit in the fifth as part of a 3-for-3 game one victory, making a victor out of Justin Ramsey (4-2), who pitched a three-hitter.
In game two, the Armada after falling behind 9-5, came back with a two-run home run by Jose Canseco in the fifth and an RBI groundout and a wild pitch in the sixth to send it into extra innings tied at 9-9.
Long Beach relievers Dennis Leduc and loser Chris Testa (1-2) combined to allow just one run over the previous five innings of relief work prior to the two-run 10th inning.
On a warm day, the second game saw three home runs in regulation. Peanut Williams hit a two-run homer (14) as part of three driven in, while Jeff LaRue's two-run homer (9) in the third tied it at 5-5 as part of a four RBI day.
Garry Templeton II and Brett Levier each had four hits as part of an 18-hit Fullerton attack in game two.
In game one, Webb had his first three-hit game of the season, driving in the go-ahead run as part of a three-run fifth inning to lead Long Beach to a 4-1 victory.
Ramsey (4-2) pitched a complete game, seven-inning three-hitter, winning his second-straight start. He retired the final eight batters of the game.
Webb's double, his third hit, broke a 1-1 tie and gave Long Beach a 2-1 advantage. Adonis Harrison then added to the lead with an RBI single to make it 3-1. Randall Shelley then chased starter Todd Gelatka (2-3) from the game with an RBI double to make it 4-1.
Gelatka gave up four runs on six hits over four and one third innings of work to take the loss. Fullerton had led 1-0 on a Rich Pohle RBI double in the first.
