Flyers Remain Undefeated

Fort Worth Flyers News Release
FORT WORTH, Texas - The Fort Worth Flyers extended their win streak to three and remain undefeated this season after a 113-95 blowout of the Los Angeles D-Fenders.
In the first quarter, the Flyers controlled the tip and the next 12 minutes of play. They never trailed and were up by 11 points with 5:46 remaining. However, the D-Fenders managed a 10-0 run at that point as the Flyers' offense went cold. Fort Worth pulled away by the end of the frame, however, up 26-23.
Early in the second quarter, Los Angeles tied the game at 29 with 10:44 to go. Guard Corey Santee pinned a three-pointer to spark a Flyers response. Fort Worth built a larger lead, anchored by 12 points by forward Kelenna Azubuike, and led 57-45 at the end of the half.
Head coach Sidney Moncrief said the team had to play catch up since it played a game 24 hours earlier.
"The start was a big key to the victory tonight," he said.
Moncrief said Santee is playing as well as anyone on the team for the first three games.
"Defensively, he's doing a tremendous job and he's making his shots," he said. "What's overlooked is how well he's defending. He's been a big spark for us on the defensive end."
The Flyers shot 54 percent on field goals and 66 percent from beyond the arc during the entire first half.
Fort Worth continued its dominance in the third quarter. The D-Fenders' smallest deficit was five points, and their largest was 15, obtained at the end of the period, when the home team was up 82-67.
In the fourth quarter, the D-Fenders couldn't muster a comeback. The Flyers scored at ease and cruised to victory.
The Flyers notched 22 points off 19 turnovers by Los Angeles. Azubuike led all scorers with 35 points, and Santee was the second-highest scorer with 24 points. Bobby Jones chipped in with 18 points and 9 rebounds, and Louis Williams added 15 points and a game-high 7 assists.
Azubuike said the team's legs were tired, but it showed heart on their part to come out and play well for the decisive win.
"It was a team effort," he said. "Hopefully, we can come out and play well again next game."
Moncrief said the guards did a great job of penetrating and creating passing lanes.
"A lot of our shots were off of penetration and ball movement," he said. "That's what we want to try to encourage for our players - to move the basketball to get to open spots and make good shots."
The D-Fenders were led by guard Brian Chase, who attained 19 points on 7-of-16 shooting. Devin Green and Jackie Manuel added 13 apiece, and Andre Patterson also reached double figures with 12 points.
The 3-0 Flyers will host the Anaheim Arsenal on December 5 at 7 p.m. at the Fort Worth Convention Center. The D-Fenders drop to 3-2 and return home to face the Sioux Falls Skyforce on December 4.
