Arkansas RimRockers News Release

LITTLE ROCK, Ark., Dec. 1 - Brandon Dean hit a long jumper with 1:54 remaining in the second overtime to give the RimRockers the lead for good as they defeated the defending champion Thunderbirds 125-119 in their home opener.

"I've been here a couple of years so I'm one of the guys that's expected to step up and make plays" said RimRockers guard Brandon Dean. "I was fortunate to get an open shot and I knocked it down"

Arkansas was led by 52 points from their starting backcourt, Clay Tucker, 28 points, and Myron Allen, 24 points, including the game tying jumper with 0.1 seconds left in regulation.

Albuquerque had strong shooting performances from T.J. Cummings, 28 points on 13-16 shooting, and Jamaal Thomas' 24 with 6-10 from beyond the arc.

The Thunderbirds got out to a fast start as they took a commanding 10-1 lead early in the first quarter, but the RimRockers responded by cutting the lead to six at the end of the period. The RimRockers continued their surge as they took the lead to the halftime break 46-44.

"It was good to get that first home win" said RimRockers Head Coach Andy Stoglin. "They showed a lot of heart the way these guys played. Albuquerque is a good team, they won it all last year and got a head start in China for two (exhibition games). So to beat a top team and do it in front of our home crowd is good."

Both teams came out of the break as they exchanged baskets for the first nine minutes. A late surge helped Albuquerque to a 74-70 lead at the end of three.

The RimRockers had seven players in double figures with strong double-double contributions from Brian Jackson, 15 and 14 boards, and Jonathan Moore, 16 and 12 rebounds.

Both teams will try to rest and prepare for the rematch, as they face each other again on Sunday, December 2nd at 2 p.m.
