
Flyers break down JackHammers, 5-4

SCHAUMBURG, Ill- The Flyers came back in awesome fashion in the ninth to stay perfect against Joliet. The Flyers took their fifth win of the season over the visiting JackHammers, 5-4 at Alexian Field; the Flyers are a perfect 5-0 against the JackHammers this season.
Center fielder Mike Goss got the JackHammers on the board in the first when he walked to lead off the inning, stole second, advanced to third on a throwing error by the catcher, and scored when second baseman Chard Ehrnsberger singled to the shortstop. Ehrnsberger edged the JackHammers early lead to two runs when Jayson Drobiak flew out to right fielder, driving him in. The Flyers were finally able to get out of the inning but, were still down 2-0 in the bottom of the first.
Nelson Gord picked up the Flyers first hit on the night, sending one up the middle to the shortstop. Gord then stole second and reached third on a throwing error by the catcher. Gord then scored when Rob Watson grounded out, shrinking the JackHammers lead to one run in the third. Gord went 3-4 from the plate with three runs scored on the evening.
Gord also chalked up the Flyers second run of the night when he scored off of a double hit to the left field wall by second baseman Rob Watson, tying things up in the fifth. Watson then scored to take the 3-2 lead in the fifth when Chris Weekly singled to bring him in, Weekly was out on the play getting caught up in a run-down in between first and second.
The JackHammers knotted things up in the eighth when Dennis Blackmon doubled down the right field line bringing in pinch-runner Blake Gill, evening the score at 3-3. The JackHammers were threatening to take the lead with runners at second and third, but relief man Chris Andel struck out the final batter to end the stanza.
The Flyers jumped back out in front in the bottom of the eighth, when Josue Lopez singled to bring in Eric Cole who had reached on a fielder's choice. The Flyers had two in scoring position but couldn't get them in, finishing the eighth up, 4-3.
Flyers relief man Dan Jackson gave up his first run of the season in the ninth when Mike Goss scored on a wild pitch from third, tying things up at four-all.
Player of the game, Nelson Gord won it for the Flyers in the bottom of the ninth, as he scored on a no out bunt-single laid down by Geoff McCallum, Gord scored when the catcher flubbed the throw to first base.
Dan Jackson picked up his second win on the season, while JackHammers relief man Amad Stephens got his second loss on the season.
The Flyers and the JackHammers continue their four game series tomorrow at Alexian Field, prior to tomorrow night's game the Chicago Bears Celebrity Home Run Derby will be held at Alexian Field courtesy of Heidenhain Corporation, starting at 5:30, with the game set to start at 6:20.
