
Flyboys Open Weekend Series With Johnson City With 10-2 Win at Pioneer Park

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - Three RBIs from Cian Sahler (Fordham) and a shutdown start by Jack Liberio Jr. (RCSJ-Cumberlands) gave the Greeneville Flyboys the decisive 10-2 win over Johnson City on Saturday, July 2.
With one out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the first innings, Jack O'Reilly (Villanova) brought home the first tun of the game for the Flyboys (14-14) as his sac fly to right field brought home Myles Smith and made it a 1-0 ballgame.
Greeneville added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth, as an RBI single by Sahler brought home Beau Ankeney (Grand Canyon) to make it 2-0. An RBI double for David Bishop (TCU) brought home Sahler and then an RBI single by Brock Daniels brought in Bishop himself to give Greeneville a 4-0 advantage.
Johnson City (12-16) answered in the top of the fifth, as a McKay Barney (Washington) groundout brought home Matt Miceli (Stony Brook) to cut the lead to 4-1.
With runners at second and third, a wild pitch by Carter Kelsey (Seton Hall) allowed O'Reilly to score and give Greeneville a four-run advantage again, going up 5-1.
The Flyboy offense exploded in the bottom of the seventh as back-to-back singles from Sahler and Smith scored four total runs to push the Greeneville lead to 9-1.
O'Reilly came up big again for the Flyboys in the bottom of the eighth, as his bloop single to left scored Daniels and swelled the Greeneville lead to 10-1.
Roberto Peña (Tulane) gave Johnson City some hope in the top of the ninth with a solo shot over the right field wall, but that's all the Doughboys would score, falling 10-2 at Pioneer Park.
Sahler finished the contest going 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored, while O'Reilly went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored.
Liberio Jr. (2-0) earns the win, going six innings, giving up one run off three hits, walking four and striking out seven. Caleb Jones (Winthrop) closed out the game for Greeneville, giving up one run off three hits and striking out three in three innings of work.
William Westbrock (Caldwell Tech CC) (0-2) was handed the loss, giving up five runs off seven hits, walking five and striking out two in 4.2 innings. Kelsey gave up two runs off two hits while walking one and striking out another in 1.2 innings of work. Nick Houghton (Southeastern) finished the game for the Doughboys, giving up three runs off four hits and walking a batter over 1.2 innings.
The series will now shift to Johnson City for one game tomorrow, July 3, at 7:00 PM. This game will be a nine-inning contest. Fans who cannot make the trip to Johnson City for the game can tune into the live radio broadcast for free beginning at 6:45 PM at flyboysbaseball.com.
