
Florida Panthers Sign Max Birbraer

San Antonio â The San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League today announced that the Florida Panthers have signed right wing Max Birbraer (beer-BRIEGH-uhr) to a one-year contract. As per club policy, financial details of the pact were not disclosed. Birbraer, 22, skated in 57 games with the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League last season, scoring 12 points (six goals, six assists) with 42 penalty minutes.
Originally drafted by New Jersey in the third round (67th overall) of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, Birbraer has spent the last three seasons in Albany, compiling 38 points (19 goals, 19 assists) with 88 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound native of Ust-Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan, immigrated to Israel with his family as a child. He represented Israel in Group D play in the 2000 World Championships, scoring 12 points (six goals, six assists) in four games, with six penalty minutes. He played three seasons in the Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League (OPJHL) from 1997-2000, skating for Shelburne and Newmarket. In 94 OPJHL games, Birbraer scored 142 points (77 goals, 65 assists) with 85 penalty minutes.
