
Former Falcons Assistant Maciver Joins Boston Staff

Springfield, MA â Former Springfield Falcons assistant coach Norm Maciver has joined the coaching staff of the Boston Bruins as an assistant. Maciver, along with Wayne Cashman, will assist new Bruins head coach Mike Sullivan.
Maciver served as an assistant coach with the Falcons for the past three seasons. The Thunder Bay, Ontario native assisted former Springfield head coach Marc Potvin during the 2000-01 and 2001-02 campaigns as a member of the Phoenix Coyotes organization. Maciver continued as Falcons assistant coach under bench boss Marty McSorley last season after being hired by the Tampa Bay Lightning. Maciver joined the Falcons staff after spending the 1999-2000 season as graduate assistant coach at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, his alma mater.
As a player, Maciver skated 13 professional seasons which included 500 games in the NHL. The defenseman collected 285 points (55g, 230a) while playing for the New York Rangers, Hartford Whalers, Edmonton Oilers, Ottawa Senators, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Winnipeg Jets/Phoenix Coyotes. Maciver also skated 197 AHL games over three seasons with the New Haven Knighthawks, Binghamton Whalers, and Cape Breton Oilers. Maciver won the Eddie Shore Award as the AHL's top defenseman and was named an AHL First Team All-Star for the 1990-91 campaign.
In an announcement made by the Bruins yesterday, Maciver agreed to a two-year deal with the NHL club.
