THE STAKES: After dropping two in a row, the Firecats desperately need this big win against a stellar Birmingham team. Only four games remain in the regular season, and each game will be instrumental in playoff seeding. The Firecats have fallen to two games behind Birmingham in the American South Division, and Birmingham currently takes the tiebreaker from Florida due to their 21-point win in May.
THE SERIES: Birmingham currently leads the series three games to one. Birmingham beat Florida 49-31 in their first ever meeting in 2002. The two teams split in 2003.
THE IFs:
If Florida beats Birmingham, it would ...
· Give Florida a 2-3 series record with Birmingham
· Give Florida a 4-2 home record in 2004
· Give Ben Bennett an 18-11 regular season record as a head coach
· Give Florida a 8-5 record for the season
· Give Florida a 8-5 record against the American Conference
· Move Florida to one game behind Birmingham in the American South Division
HEAD COACH: Firecats' Head Coach Ben Bennett played college ball at Duke under Steve Spurrier. Bennett was the 1980 ACC Rookie of the Year, and he was named ACC Player of the Year in 1982 and 1983. Bennett went on to have one of the most prolific careers of any quarterback in Arena Football League history. He was named the AFL Most Valuable Player in 1988 while playing with the Chicago Bruisers. He is the only quarterback in AFL history to lead three different teams to a total of five Arena Bowls.
