CHICAGO - Arkansas offensive specialist KEVIN WILLIAMS, Tulsa wide receiver/defensive back MICHAEL DUNCAN and Rio Grande Valley defensive specialist EDDIE MOTEN have been named the Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player, U.S. Army Ironman and ADT Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, for Week 14 of the 2004 season.
BABY RUTH REAL DEAL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Williams (6-1, 202, Arkansas-Pine Bluff), in third season, scored five total touchdowns, including the Twisters final three scores to help the Twisters defeat the Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings 67-61 in overtime to earn Arkansas' first victory since Week 1. He finished the night with nine catches for 149 yards and four touchdowns. Williams also rushed in a score from three yards out in the second quarter. Williams, who began the season as the Twisters starting quarterback, also completed one pass for six yards. With 49 seconds left in the game Williams caught a 30-yard pass to put the Twisters up by one point. But the Battle Wings responded with a score leaving only 26 seconds left for Arkansas to find the endzone. Williams stepped up again recording a seven-yard touchdown reception with no time remaining in the game. In overtime he finished his big game with a 16-yard touchdown catch to give the Twisters the victory. This is the first weekly award for Williams and the first Twister to win this season. Kahil Carter was the last Twister to win a weekly honor, earning the ADT Defensive Player of the Week award in Week 12 of last season.
U.S. ARMY IRONMAN OF THE WEEK
Duncan (6-1, 190, Portland State), in his second season, made a good first impression to his new teammates as he helped the Tulsa Talons defeat the Laredo Law 60-40 to avenge a loss earlier in the season. On offense Duncan caught three passes for 46 yards and two touchdowns. On defense he recorded two interceptions and 1.5 tackles (1UA 1A). Then on special teams the former PSU Viking returned one kickoff for 26 yards. His first interception occurred in the first quarter. Both of his touchdown receptions occurred in the second half. He finished off the game with his second interception that he returned 38 yards. After playing six games for Rio Grande Valley earlier this season, this was Duncan's first game in a Tulsa uniform. This is the first weekly award for Duncan. Teammate Bob Bees won Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Week honors two weeks ago.
ADT DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Moten (5-10, 185, Texas A&M-Kingsville), in his rookie season, played a big part in helping the Rio Grande Valley Dorados break their seven game losing streak by helping the Dorados upset the Wichita Stealth 49-34. On the night he recorded 5.5 tackles (4UA 3A), two interceptions and two additional passes defended. Moten returned his interceptions for a total of 41 yards, including a 36-yard return in the second quarter that set up the Dorados on the six yardline. Moten's second pick came on Wichita's last series of the game. The interception capped off a second half of the Dorados in which they allowed only six points to the Stealth. The Dorados outscored the Stealth 35-6 in the second half to turn a 14-point halftime deficit into a victory. This is the first weekly award for Moten. Karleton Thomas is the only other Dorados to be honored, winning this same award in Week 1 for the Dorados.
