Jersey Auction to Benefit Epilepsy Society! Saturday, July 17th is a very special evening for the Bakersfield Blitz. Not only can the first 2,000 children, 12 and under, receive a bobblehead doll of Blitz QB Chad Elliott, but all fans can bid for their own signed 2003 Blitz jersey. During the game, there will be a silent auction where fans can visit two different auction tables and bid on their favorite Blitz players' 2003 jersey. Jerseys like Chad Elliot, Eric Mahanke, Nick Onaindia, and many more will be available. The auction benefits a very special cause in Haylee's Hope/Kern County Epilepsy Society. Bakersfield Blitz Wide Receivers/Defensive Backs Coach Paul Press' daughter Haylee suffers from a severe epileptic condition where she has uncontrollable seizures, sometimes for hours. Haylee's battle with her condition will escalate with brain surgery at a New York hospital. Doctor's believe they have pinpointed the spot in her brain that causes the seizures and plan on removing it, though it's dangerously close to the portion of the brain that also controls eyesight. According to the doctors, there is a 90% chance it will greatly reduce her seizures and better than a 50-50 chance that it will end them altogether.
Foam Football Fling to Benefit Bakersfield PAL! Bakersfield Sports Entertainment and the Bakersfield Blitz will be hosting the first ever Foam Football Fling. Fans are encouraged to bring a new or gently used Nerf-style football to the game on Saturday, July 17th for donation. When the Blitz score their first touchdown of the game, fans will throw their footballs onto the field. The footballs will be donated to the Bakersfield Police Activities League, which is a sage haven for underprivileged youth to participate in after-school and summer programs.
"Wild About Reading" Program in Full Swing! Kern County Library's 2004 "Wild About Reading" program sponsored by KGET-TV 17 and The Bakersfield Blitz, runs until Saturday, July 31st.
