TODAY'S GAME: Finale of a three-game series against the Palm Beach Cardinals (StL) at Osceola County Stadium (0-2)...Game three of a seven-game homestand against Palm Beach at the Fort Myers Miracle (0-2)...Florida is coming off a three-game series defeat to the Miracle at Hammond Stadium, and a 1-6 road trip against Fort Myers and the Charlotte Stone Crabs...Fourth, and final, series between Florida and Palm Beach in 2018, with Florida trailing the series 5-6...The Fire Frogs dropped two of three at home against the St. Louis' Cardinals affiliate from May 1-3.
TODAY'S STARTING PITCHER: 20-year-old Huascar Ynoa makes his second start at the High-A level (20th this season) in the finale of the three-game series against the Palm Beach Cardinals on Wednesday morning...The native of the Dominican Republic was not ranked in the Atlanta Braves' top-30 prospect list at the beginning of the season (MLB.com), but is currently ranked 23rd...The 6-foot-2 hurler suffered the loss against the Charlotte Stone Crabs with three runs allowed on six hits, a walk and eight strikeouts across five frames...Wednesday will be Ynoa's first career start against the Cardinals.
FLORIDA STYMIED IN LOSS TO PALM BEACH: The Florida Fire Frogs' offensive woes continued in Tuesday night's 8-1 loss to the Palm Beach Cardinals at Osceola County Stadium. Florida dropped the three-game series with the defeat, and is not 9-18-6 in series play in 2018. The Atlanta Braves' affiliate has scored just 30 runs over the last 13 games, averaging 2.3 runs-per-contest to put up a 1-12 record.
WHEREVER I MAY ROME: Drew Waters and Riley Delgado combined for five of the Fire Frogs' six hits on Tuesday night...Waters doubled to start the game and came home to score the only run of the night for the home team on Delgado's RBI single to right...Waters singled in his second at-bat with a two-out single in the third...The 19-year-old has started each of the last three games by reaching base, and has scored each time.
Delgado singled in his final two plate appearances in the sixth and eighth frames for his second three-hit performance since joining Florida on July 10.
ANDERSON NAMED PITCHER OF THE WEEK: For the second time in less than a month, Florida Fire Frogs starting pitcher Ian Anderson has been named the Pitcher of the Week for the week of July 30 - Aug. 5 in the Florida State League...This is the Rexford, N.Y. native's third career Pitcher of the Week award, with the first coming in May, 2017, and the second earned in July of this season...The 20-year-old becomes the first Florida player to earn multiple weekly honors in a season.
The Atlanta Braves' third-ranked prospect (MLB.com) held the Charlotte Stone Crabs hitless through 7.2 innings of work at Charlotte Sports Park on Aug. 1. The right-hander did walk a man, but struck out five in the longest outing of his career...Since the start of July, the third overall pick of the 2016 draft has allowed just three runs - two earned - over 29.2 innings on 13 hits, five free passes and 37 strikeouts.
BUILDING THE PIPELINE: MLB Pipeline revealed its updated prospect rankings, and nine Atlanta Braves farmhands cracked the top-100...Of the nine, seven either currenlty played, or have previously played for the Fire Frogs: Kyle Wright (24), Ian Anderson (38), Austin Riley (43), Cristian Pache (57), Luiz Gohara (61), Touki Toussaint (76), and Drew Waters (98).
