Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL - The Reading Royals took a commanding three games to none lead on a game winner with 2:53 to go in the third by the Royals post-season leading scorer Ryan Cruthers. Matt Dalton made 36 saves for the Royals who are one win away from advancing to the American Conference Finals.
The first period began with a flurry of shorthanded chances for the Reading Royals and Everblades goalie Chris Beckford-Tseu came up huge stopping two breakaway chances in the first two minutes of action. Reading would eventually beat Beckford-Tseu on a great individual effort by Marc Cavosie as he outworked Ryan Lang on the boards skated into the slot and fired a wrist shot that was deflected past Beckford-Tseu to give the Royals a 1-0 lead. Gavin Morgan and Scott Langdon each tallied assists on the marker.
The second period ended where it began with the Royals maintaining the 1-0 lead. The Royals had the best chances in the period, finding the post twice, but the iron was kind to the Blades and the puck stayed out of the cage. Benn Olson had another strong period, dishing out an open ice hit on Royals star forward Olivier Labelle that sent the forward to the ice. Chris Beckford-Tseu stopped all 17 shots he faced in the period, and Matt Dalton made 14 saves for Reading.
In the third period the Everblades got even when Dominic Osman fed a sensational cross ice pass to Kevin Baker who made no mistake beating Dalton and sending the 4,096 Blades faithful to their feet. The Everblades continued to pressure the Royals, but with 2:53 to go, Ryan Cruthers, who leads the ECHL in playoff points, scored the game winner on an eerily similar play to the Everblades tying goal. Cruthers received a cross ice pass from Greg Scott, buried the game winner.
