Stockton takes Game 1 in OT, 3-2

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors (3-3) dropped Game 1 of the National Conference semifinals, 3-2 in overtime to the Stockton Thunder (4-1) in front 5,208 fans at Rabobank Arena on Friday night. RW J.F. Caudron scored the overtime winner to give Stockton a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.

Neither team got on the board in the opening period. Condors G J.P. Levasseur saw nine shots while Stockton G Andrew Perugini stopped all 12 Condors shots on goal.

In the second, Bakersfield took the lead. RW Ryan Menei lifted a rebound past Perugini on the power play for a 1-0 lead at 6:12. Stockton tied the game at one, 9:11 into the second period on a goal by LW Jason Pitton. Condors led in shots 28-16 through 40 minutes, but the scordd was tied at one.

The Condors took a 2-1 lead early in the third period. F Mark Voakes scored at 2:08 on the power play off of a nice feed from F Andrew Ianiero. Time wound down in the third period with Bakersfield holding a slim lead. A late power play by Stockton led to RW Kelly Czuy's goal with 2:57 remaining in regulation. The Condors had a chance to take the lead late on a power play in the final two minutes of play, but failed to convert, sending the game into overtime.

In the extra session, each team earned a power play opportunity, but couldn't produce on the man-advantage. Stockton won it when Caudron scooped up a rebound and deposited the puck into the net with 9:42 remaining in overtime.
