Florence Survives Boulders in Sudden Death

Rockland County, NY - Craig Massey lined a single to right field to score Alberti Chavez with the winning run in sudden death to give the Florence Y'Alls a 10-9 victory over the host New York Boulders on Saturday night at Clover Stadium in Pomona.
Chavez started the sudden death frame on first base and moved up to second when Billy Damon bunted for a single.
After Boulders' reliever Zach Schneider struck out Anthony Brocato, Massey lined his hit to right.
The loss snapped a four-game winnning streak for New York.
Deadlocked at 4-4 through nine innings, and with Chavez starting the frame at second base, Brennan Price put the Y'Alls ahead with a long RBI double to centerfield. Brocato followed with a double down the line in left that plated pinch-runner Billy Damon with the run that gave Florence a 6-4 advantage.
The Y'Alls then appeared tp break the game open with a two-run, bases loaded single by Bryant Flete, his fourth and fifth RBI of the night, that increased their lead to 8-4.
However, in their half of the 10th, New York got an RBI double from Max Smith, a run-scoring single by David Vinsky and a two-run single from Giovanni Garbella to close the gap to 9-8. Karl Craigie came on for the Y'Alls and was greeted by a RBI double by Chris Kwitzer that evened the contest at 9-9.
Craigie would eventually get Gian Martellini to ground out to send the game to sudden death.
The Y'Alls had grabbed a 4-2 lead in the top of the seventh on a home run by Flete, his third of the year. Craig Massey and Ethan Stern led off the frame with singles off Boulders' starter Justin Alintoff before Flete connected.
The Boulders had jumped in front with a pair of first inning runs off Florence starter Jeremy Ovalle.
The inning opened with Jake MacKenzie getting hit by a pitch. Two outs later, Francisco Del Valle doubled in MacKenzie, then Giovanni Garbella followed with an RBI double.
After Garbella's hit, Ovalle held the Boulders hitless over his final 4 1/3 innings. Bobby Braband came on to pitch the sixth for Florence and continued the New York hitless streak until Ray Hernandez' single with one out in the seventh. One out later, Max Smith knotted the game at 4-4 when he blasted his ninth home run of the season.
Florence got one back, closing to 2-1, in the third inning when New York third baseman Chris Kwitzer threw away a grounder off the bat of Chavez that allowed Rodney Tenney to score.
