Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Waterloo, Iowa-Individual hockey fans, groups, and corporations pitched-in to help the Waterloo Black Hawks and Cedar Rapids Rough Riders raise money for victims of summer flooding. Wednesday's preseason game between the teams drew 1,755 fans, all contributing at least $5 for admission. The event generated a total of $13,074 for the LSB Foundation-Flood Relief and the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation's Flood 2008 Fund.

"So many people in the Cedar Valley, Cedar Rapids, and across eastern Iowa were affected by the flooding in June," said Black Hawks General Manager of Business Operations Doug Miller. "We're very proud to be able to put aside the fierce rivalry between our teams and fans in order to do something for both communities."

In addition to ticket sales, the Face-Off for Flood Relief was boosted by donations from the Waterloo Youth Hockey Association ($1,000), the Waterloo Black Hawk Booster Club ($1,000), the Cedar Rapids Rough Rider Booster Club ($500), Skogman Homes ($500), the Omaha Lancer Booster Club ($500), and the Lincoln Stars Booster Club ($501). Carlos O'Kelly's and Budweiser contributed food and beverages for fans who enjoyed the "Sandbagger's Suite." Cedar Valley World Travel provided complimentary bus service to bring the Rough Riders to Young Arena.

Additional flood relief is still on the way. The Sioux City Musketeers and the United States Hockey League will be collecting donations from fans attending the USHL Fall Classic in Sioux City September 25th through 27th.

The LSB Foundation coordinates charitable donations to benefit those in need in the Cedar Valley. All donations to the LSB Foundation from this game will go to flood relief projects. The Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation's Flood 2008 Fund supports nonprofit organizations throughout Linn County with ongoing recovery and rebuilding efforts in the wake of summer flooding.
