Cedar Rapids RoughRiders News Release
Cedar Rapids, Iowa- Last night's Face Off For Flood Relief preseason game between the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders and Waterloo Black Hawks in Waterloo raised $13,074 for the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation's Flood 2008 Fund and LSB Foundation Flood Relief.
All ticket sales to the game- which drew 1,755 fans- benefited flood relief. Additional donations were made by the RoughRiders Fan Club, the Black Hawks Booster Club, the Waterloo Youth Hockey Association, Skogman Homes, the Omaha Lancers Booster Club and the Lincoln Stars Booster Club while Budweiser, Carlos O'Kelly's Mexican Café and Cedar Valley World Travel all provided products and services free of charge.
"The generosity and community spirit shown by fans both in the Cedar Rapids area and in Waterloo has been tremendous," said RoughRiders Coach and General Manager Mark Carlson. "Their efforts as well as those of a number of local businesses and fans throughout the United States Hockey League are what made this event such a success."
The Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation's Flood 2008 Fund supports nonprofit organizations throughout Linn County with ongoing recovery and rebuilding efforts in the wake of June's flood. The Lincoln Savings Bank's LSB Foundation coordinates charitable donations to benefit communities in the Cedar Valley. All donations to the LSB Foundation from last night's game will go to flood relief in the Cedar Valley.
The RoughRiders, who won last night's game 4-3, return to preseason action with a home-and-home series against the Des Moines Buccaneers this weekend. The Riders will visit the Bucs Saturday night at 7:05 before returning home to take on Des Moines Sunday evening at 5:05.
Tickets to Sunday night's game are currently available online at www.roughridershockey.com and can also be purchased at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena ticket office beginning at noon on Sunday. All seats for Sunday's game are available for $7. Flood relief fund raising efforts will continue at Sunday's evening's game as the Riders auction off an authentic RoughRiders jersey autographed by the 2008-09 team, as well as a game-used stick autographed by last year's Rider squad.
The Riders will complete their exhibition slate with games against the Fargo Force, Omaha Lancers and Tri-City Storm at the USHL Fall Classic in Sioux City September 25-27.
The Riders will open their tenth anniversary regular season on October 4 at Indiana. They will play their home opener on Saturday, October 11 at 7:05PM against the arch rival Waterloo Black Hawks.
2008-09 season tickets are still available through the RoughRiders' business office (247-0340). Fans who purchase season tickets receive a host of benefits available exclusively to season ticket holders.
In addition to full season tickets, the RoughRiders also offer the Flex Plan, which enables fans to purchase books of ten ticket vouchers that can be redeemed in any quantity for any regular season home game during normal box office hours. Fans who purchase the flex plan receive a significant discount ($21 off game day ticket prices) and can still enjoy the games of their choice in the seats they want.Â
