Flint falls to red hot Kalamazoo 5-2

Flint, MI - Kalamazoo was held up briefly by some poor weather on Route 69 on its way to Flint tonight yet remained in first place in the Central Division after a 5-2 victory over the Generals at Perani Arena & Event Center.

Kalamazoo came into the game winning four games in five nights last week putting them in a first place tie (20 points) with Muskegon in the Central Division. Flint came into the game .500 with a record of 5-5-2 (12 points).

1st Period - Kalamazoo got on the board first when Jason Deitsch scoring midway through the opening period and the Generals countered with.a goal by Chad Cavanagh at 15:25 and the teams went to the locker room tied 1-1.

2nd Period - Three minutes into the second and the teams had already exchanged goals. Lucas Drake scored a power play goal for Kalamazoo just 1:45 into the period and Flint's Fabien Laniel answered with a power play goal at 3:01. The score remained 2-2 for most of the second until a late onslaught by Kalamazoo had Flint netminder Jason Saal making numerous saves on a 5-3 power play for Kalamazoo. Eventually, Kory Karlander extended his point scoring streak to six games when he put one past Saal with 12 seconds remaining in the period making the score 3-2 in favor of Kalamazoo. Flint outshot Kalamazoo 18-14 in the second period, the most shots given up by Kalamazoo in a period this season.

3rd Period - Kalamazoo, 9-0-0 when leading going into the thrid period this season, scored its third power play goal of the game 35 seconds into third period to take a two goal lead 4-2. Kalamazoo had another 5-3 power play in the third and despite another flurry of saves by Saal, Daniel Carriere scored the Wings fourth power play goal to extend the lead to 5-2. That would be how the game would end with the K-Wings winning its seventh straight game by a final score of 5-2 over the Flint Generals.

Next game for the Generals is Friday night when they host the Motor City Mechanics. Kevin Kerr;s #20 will be retired in a pre-game ceremony..

Kerr's No. 20 To Become Fifth Retired Number

Flint, MI - The Flint Generals will retire Kevin Kerr's jersey this Friday night, November 25, 2005 when the Generals host the Motor City Mechanics at Perani Arena and Event Center. Kerr will become the fifth player in franchise history to have his number retired, joining Bob Perani's #1, Brett MacDonald's #77, Doug Manchek's #16 and Stephan Brochu's #5.
