Flight soars past Dazzle

January 22, 2005 - NBA G League (G League)
Roanoke Dazzle News Release

ROANOKE, Va. – Jason Miskiri posted a season high 25 points and 10 rebounds as the Huntsville Flight (14-10) prevailed over the Roanoke Dazzle (12-8) in Saturday's NBDL action at the Roanoke Civic Center. Bernard King tallied another 25 to push Huntsville to a 125-116 victory over the Dazzle.

Roanoke's first half performance gave the impression victory was inevitable with the Dazzle taking the lead two minutes into the first quarter and building up to a 26 point advantage.

Isiah Victor led the charge with 14 points in the first quarter alone and had a total of 29 for the night. Terrance Shannon brought another 26 to the game while Cory Alexander and the high scoring Matt Carroll both put up 13.

"In the first half we weren't playing well," said Flight Head Coach Ralph Lewis. "It was extremely frustrating. I told the guys we were shorthanded and we needed productivity."

With key players like Rodney Bias, out with an ankle injury, and Antoine Pettway out with the flu, Lewis had to change the fate of the game.

"We figured we would go to the zone and chip away at the lead," said Lewis. "Try to get it down to 15 or 10 by the fourth quarter. It was a ballgame at that point."

With a record 80 points in the second half, it's no surprise that six of Huntsville's eight activated players scored in double digits. Big man Mengke Bateer posted 21, Austin Nichols contributed 18 off the bench, while Damone Brown poured in 16 and Cedric Henderson had 10.

"When you allow someone to score 80 points in a half, you're not going to win," said Dazzle Head Coach Kent Davison. "A lot of it has to do with how we took care of the ball. I hate to think about how many easy baskets they had in transition."

Brown, King and Nichols where crucial in closing the 26 point 6:43 third quarter Dazzle lead, each scoring in double digits in the second half alone. "We thought the game was over at halftime," said Davison. "That's why they play four quarters."

Roanoke will host the current first place Columbus Riverdragons, Wednesday, January 26 at the Roanoke Civic Center, game time 7 p.m. Huntsville remains on the road, taking on Columbus on Friday, January 28 at the Columbus Civic Center, game time 7 p.m. For more information log on to www.nbdl.com.
