January 22, 2005 - NBA G League (G League) News Release
THREE PERCENTAGE: Sixty-three games into the rule change that allows three-point field goals to count only in the last three minutes of each quarter and in overtime, percentages from behind the arc continue to show improvement. D-League teams are shooting a combined .353 from that distance this season, as opposed to .323 last season, .342 in 2002-03 and .330 in the league's first campaign.
NBDL QUOTE OF THE DAY: "Fifty-percent of kids want to be pro athletes. We try to preach to them that you can't be a great athlete without doing good in school. You can't play PlayStation 2 if you can't read the instructions," Roanoke guard Cory Alexander told the Roanoke Times this week about the importance of the league's Read To Achieve initiative.
ALUMNI CHECK: Former Asheville Altitude guard Jason Hart recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 assists for the Charlotte Bobcats against the Dallas Mavericks on Friday. Another D-League alum, guard Rafer Alston of the Toronto Raptors, scored 20 points and dished out seven assists against the Wizards.
FRIDAY'S TOP PERFORMANCES
· Asheville's Ron Slay recorded 23 points and 12 rebounds in a 116-107
win over Florida.
· Flame inside force Hiram Fuller had 20 points and 12 boards in the
loss at Asheville.
· Flame guard Marcus Moore scored 14 and dished out 14 assists vs. the
Altitude.
· Mike King came of the Fayetteville bench to score 21 and hit 9-of-14
field goal attempts.
FIGHTING THROUGH: With point guard Omar Cook in bed fighting the flu and post player Ernest Brown in early foul trouble, the Fayetteville Patriots still managed to record their largest victory margin of the year in a 94-74 win over Huntsville. After a 3-16 start, coach Mike Brown's club has now won three of its last four games.
NBDL QUIZ: NBA.com tabbed San Antonio's 128-123 overtime victory over Phoenix Friday night an "Instant Classic!" A pair of former NBDL players played in that game. Can you name them?
